Deconstruction of my own personal NEW YORKER CARTOON captions

Homo Barbershoptus went extinct in the late Tinpanalleycene.

And we are back for another six-pack (plus one alternate caption). This is the 26th edition! Every installment of the full series can be most easily located in the literary lyricism archives.

Another one hit wonder on the pop charts.

In 15 minutes it’ll be “whatever became of so and so?”.

The same as Nixon’s dog, but with an upgrade.

Maybe the car shouldn’t have been the “something old”…

It’s called the Oedipus T-Rex complex.

All by myself, don’t wanna be… all by myself…

I had an alternate caption, which I didn’t submit, because at that time – September 21, 2026 – the caption was very much responding to the outrage of the day; and already then I assumed that the world would quickly move on and the caption would soon lose any multifaceted potency and just come across as some cheap, superficial swipe, which is not my intention. Now, over a week later, that may already be true. And then weeks or months later, well, judge for yourself …

Next I will play a song by Ed Sheeran…
