CHERRY BLOSSOM EXPLOSION!

The Most Popular Weekend at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

The recent unseasonably warm and sunny days have led to an early explosion of the cherry blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and that is always its most popular attraction. This Saturday late morning Ed and I joined the throngs that only doubled in size by the late afternoon and marveled yet once again at the cherry trees of the esplanade in peak blossom.

But the lilacs and the tulips are also having their peak blossom time, and I will share pics of those and a few more sweet blossoms (sweet smelling too!) today.

We’ll get back to the cherry blossoms, but let’s take a detour to the lilacs for a spell…

And some other blossoming beauties…

Like these mountain witch alders…

We’ve got some in our garden too. They smell sweet like honey.

Burkwood viburnum.

Also honey perfumed…

Okay, more cherry splendor…

And now … tulips!

Those orange blossoms at top are not tulips, they are … uh … fritilaria! (Thanks, Ed)
