Ed and I enjoyed a sunny day in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden this weekend (that’s me above indulging in the sweet honey scent of the paper bush) and I took some pictures of the first blossoms of Spring.
The entrance into the BBG is right next to the Brooklyn Museum where the white blossoms of the Yoshino Cherry trees are already in bloom.

More early blooming cherry trees are in the Garden itself.

But the main cherry trees which make up the famous esplanade still have a few weeks to go before they bloom, always a big deal in the BBG.

When I was in kindergarten, our teacher gave us a little pot with a plant to grow ourselves from dirt to full bloom at home. What grew on my bedroom window sill out was a blue hyacinth, a particularly fascinating plant to watch grow from dirt to full bloom when one is five years old. I have had a special fondness for hyacinths ever since.

The paper bush was not the only plant exuding sweet aromas in the Garden, but it was the most delightful.

You see Ed in the background?

It’s a little easier to see him here.

And we’re back with the early blossoming cherry trees.

One final Brooklyn Early Spring pic on the way home…
